My first would be to take a user and a customer focused approach first and Google will follow.
Secondly, don't expect people just to take from you, you have to give things away. That's free advice, free guides, that kind of thing. It really has to be a give and take scenario.
Thirdly, don't abandon them after they have made a purchase. You'll get so many more returning customers if you're consistently publishing content that targets people after the conversion section of the funnel.
